Central BJP’s Unethical Power Capture in Maharashtra – Congress Condemns

After days of political unrest in Maharashtra, a new government was formed, and on Thursday the Congress accused the BJP of undemocratically and unethically seizing control of another state through the use of money and power. The Congress was in alliance with the NCP in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh called the situation in Maharashtra “shameful for Indian democracy,” and stated that the BJP, under the Modi-Shah duo, is determined to seize power by any means, whether directly or indirectly. The party alleged that since 2014, the BJP’s main focus has been to bring down elected state governments instead of serving the public. It claimed that the offices of the Governors and Speakers, as well as agencies like ED and CBI, are being openly misused, and buying MLAs has become common under BJP rule.

The statement further accused the BJP of being willing to go to any lengths to win elections, from misusing money power to promoting polarization and violence. If voters reject them, the statement claimed, the BJP starts conspiracies to overthrow elected governments. The party also cited instances when the BJP brought down Congress governments in states like Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Bihar.

The Congress condemned the way the BJP was destabilizing both democratically elected and installed governments, calling it an insult to democracy and the people who voted against the BJP’s ideology. The party made these statements on the same day that rebel leader Eknath Shinde was sworn in as the chief minister of Maharashtra, and the BJP’s took oath as the Deputy CM.
